There is a saying that every song has a story, and for singer-songwriter John Michael Ferrari, the best stories are often found on the road.
For the past few weeks, John Michael has been trading the studio for the open sea, embarking on an incredible journey through the heart and soul of South America. It has been a trip defined by vibrant cultures, dramatic landscapes, and the kind of inspiration that only travel can provide.
Here is a look at the “Sheet Music” of the trip so far—a travelogue of the amazing stops we’ve made before turning the page to the next chapter.
Act I: The Rhythm of the Rio de la Plata
The journey began in the “Paris of South America”—Buenos Aires, Argentina. The city is electric, much like a good rock and roll set. From the colorful streets of La Boca to the sophisticated avenues of Recoleta, you can feel the pulse of the tango in the air. It was the perfect opening track for the trip—passionate, loud, and unforgettable.
From there, we crossed over to Montevideo, Uruguay. If Buenos Aires is the high-energy opener, Montevideo is the smooth, laid-back ballad. With its relaxed atmosphere and European charm, it offered a moment to breathe in the culture and history of the region.
Act II: The Wild South
As we headed south, the scenery shifted from cityscapes to the raw beauty of nature. We stopped in Puerto Madryn, Argentina, a sanctuary for wildlife enthusiasts. It’s a place where the desert meets the sea, and where nature writes its own script without any need for editing.
Then came a truly unique stop: Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands. Walking through the streets, you’re greeted by red phone booths and pubs that feel lifted straight out of England, yet you are thousands of miles away in the South Atlantic. The contrast is fascinating—a small slice of British life surrounded by rugged, untamed ocean.
Act III: The End of the World
Today, we just departed from the ultimate destination: Ushuaia, Argentina.
Known as the “End of the World,” this is the southernmost city in South America (and arguably the world). Surrounded by the Martial Mountains and the Beagle Channel, Ushuaia feels like the edge of the map. Standing there, looking out at the water, you understand why poets and songwriters are drawn to places like this. There is a profound sense of finalizing a verse here, a feeling of standing on the brink of the unknown.
The Next Verse: Heading North
As we leave the chilly, dramatic winds of Ushuaia behind, the ship is turning its bow northward. We are now officially heading up the West Coast of South America.
We are trading the “End of the World” for the fjords and coastlines of Chile and beyond. The suitcases are packed, the cameras are full of memories, and if we know John Michael, there’s likely a notebook nearby filling up with lyrics inspired by the glaciers and the sea.
Stay tuned as the journey continues North. The adventure isn’t over yet!
